Today I had a shadow. Her name is Miranda Holmes and she is a freshman at CMW. She is a cheerleader. We have known each other but showing her around John Carroll was surprisingly a lot of fun. I showed her where all the classrooms were and introduced her to all my teachers.  She liked John Carroll a lot. I think the school would be perfect for her because it’s a lot smaller than C. Milton Wright and it would be easier for her to find her way around. Having a Shadow makes me so happy because it reminds me of when I was a shadow and so excited to attend the school. Seeing how excited and new it was to my shadow makes me feel warm hearted how nice the community is here at JC. I love this school so much and I cant wait to attend the next 4 years. 

Today in class I was more educated on maps. I learned more about latitude and longitude and how they are related to finding stuff on maps. I realized you can find any place on a map if you use latitude and longitude. I think I understand human geo better now because I know fully what’s going on in class. I think it’s very interesting that maps in inaccurate because all my life I thought they were accurate but really Greenland is not as big as it usually is on the normal map. Africa is 14 times bigger than Greenland in real life but in the map it looks about ¼ of the size. I think they should also keep time the normal way where it changes in different countries because it will just confuse the nation worldwide. If it is 12 am here in Maryland it shouldn’t be 12 am and be bright day light for example in like japan. 

Today we started our unit of maps and cartography. This unit is making me feel a little nervous because l  never really did good with Maps before. But like l  said if l  just try hard and study even harder l  feel like l  will be able to accomplish the unit with an A. Although l  feel a little nervous i'm more prepared for whats to come. l  also feel that this unit will be fun and more exciting than last year. High school is already better than middle school because of all the classes and information l  already learned! Hopefully I still like school by the end of the year, even though I don think ill ever hate it. Today in class we learned about what the map used to look like a longgg time ago. I thought this was the most interesting part because I thought how it was so cool that they put that much work into the maps with such little information!

Today In class we took the test. The test was surprisingly harder than I thought even though I studied for it and I thought it would be easy. I have a feeling that this year I’m going to have to study very hard in order to succeed in the class. I think I will be able to get an A next time by studying every night we do new stuff. I can accomplish my straight A’s by creating a flashcard system or use quizlit. This will make my grade better because I will be able to learn more and learn faster. I have a feeling I got a B on this test, but I could be horribly wrong. I will also get a study buddy in order to improve my comprehension even more. I love this class and I would hate to fail because it is very interesting. Now I know to study more and longer!

Today in class l learned we have a test Tuesday. Surprisingly l  am ready for the test. Ive taken many notes that make me prepared. l personally think you should not move my seat away from Mia and Kam because l  like being in the back. We swear we wont talk. But if you do move me at least keep me in the back because l  learn better back here. l  will do all my work 110% and will not talk. If l  do talk you can move me on a island all by myself. l  love this class because l  am next to my friends. Also because you are the best teacher ever!! So please don't move me because l  will not enjoy this class anymore. Plus when l  have stupid questions l  will be annoying you with them instead of Kam or Mia.  Therefore my seat has made me understand this class better.

Today in class l  learned a lot about socrates. In this blog post l will be writing about how it is not fair that socrates got the death penalty. Even though back then they thought differently, all of them as people decided if socrates was guilty or not. Well, if the people can decide on their own minds about either to give him the death or not, then they should be able to think their own thoughts. Socrates mentioned how their could be different opinions in the world. Well the whole 500 people that were the jury for Socrates case also had different opinions. Socrates was a brave man who even when he had the choice to run away, he would not take it. he stood up for what he believed in all the way until death. If l  was apart of the jury back then l  would say that he is not guilty because everyone has their own opinions even the jury who is sharing their opinion about his case. Therefore it should not had been illegal to share his own thoughts on the world around him.

     Today in class we learned that arete means the act of living up to ones full potential, in other words excellence. We also discussed jesus, socrates, the significance of 508 bc, and what polis and agora mean. In class as we discussed arete l  learned that it involves all of the abilities available to humans. i  also learned that the highest human potential is knowledge.
     Socrates was known as a major philosopher and hero who fought in the Peloponnesian War, he was a stone mason. His experience with war helped shape the way he viewed the world.
   The significance of 508 bc was the first time people revolted against their leaders, the birth of democracy.
    Polis means political entities ruled by their bodies of citizens. The other vocal world l  learned agora, means a gathering place in Greece for meetings that are important to share with the citizens.
     Today in class as we discussed Jesus we were given questions to answer and Mr. Schick asked us to describe our answers. At first l  thought the question was easy until l  was told to describe it. l  then became confused on how to explain what a soul is. This class period helped me better understand that there is no scientific evidence that the things we " think we know" really aren't true until we have evidence to back it up.
 

A message to Garcia was not only a small essay that changed the way people thought, but it was popular enough to be translated into 37 different languages. The essay was also sold over 40 million different copies. The short story was motivational and touched hearts by many. Throughout the years the slang term " Take a message to Garcia" was mentioned as take initiation and be your own leader. McKinley was the president during the Spanish American war. The war in which " Take a message to Garcia" took place. The president was assassinated on his 2nd term of presidency 6 months in. After he died in memorial of his death they named the tallest mountain in North America " Mt. McKinley" but later changed it back to Denali in 2015. Some of the vocabulary words we learned today were

       The essay "A message to Garcia" really spoke to me in many ways.  One lesson l  learned from this short story is to always continue to persevere and do your work, even when you get no recognition for it. The essay states "My heart goes out to the man who does his work when the boss is away, and when he's home...and the man who when given a letter for Garcia, quietly takes the missive, without asking any idiotic questions..." Throughout the story the message for all of us to learn is not to just go along in life or high school not always trying your hardest. Also it says how don't just ask idiotic questions like why, how, when? Just do what your told and don't pass it onto another student or worker to do it for you. Although high school leads you up for real life you can't live high school under achieving because it will never help you when you get into the real world.

     I agree with the message to Garcia when it says don't under achieve and not complete the tasks that are given to you. This essay relates so much to high school and how high school you need to complete your homework and assignments if you want to do god in school and get into a good college.

                My First few days at John Carroll were fantastic. The First day of school was a struggle. l  was stressed out because l  didn't know my way around the school. Although l was new l  managed to know more and more each minute. My classes were alright although some are more boring than the others. But l  love the community of John Carroll and how everyone was so nice. When l  had trouble opening my locker my friends and some older Seniors helped me open it. Throughout the day l  realized what a great school this really is.
                My second day of school was significantly better. Even though l  was almost late to school, l  still made it on time.  Im getting more and more used to my classes and homework even math! By the end of the day i'm still really tired but l  manage to do all my homework and get to sleep on time.
           
           John Carroll has been the best school I've ever been to, and i'm so glad l  decided to go here!
